A latest report on Deepika Padukone not having signed any films after 'Sapna Didi', has left many shocked. Not does it just highlight the dearth of good scripts in Bollywood but it also brings to fore the hypocrisy of the male-dominated industry, who celebrates their actress' popularity but takes a step back when it comes to remunerating them according to the crowd they pull to the theatres. The industry should ideally feel uncomfortable with the fact that their golden girl doesn't have a single film in her kitty right now, as 'Sapna Didi' has gotten indefinitely postponed owing to her co-star Irrfan Khan's health woes.
But, before we point fingers at anyone, it's important for us to check whether Deepika's contemporaries are battling the same issues as she is. And we were surprised to discover that they aren't! For instance, Taapsee Pannu, who shot to fame post 'Pink', has as many as seven films in her kitty, making her the busiest actress in the business today. Out of the seven, five are Hindi movies! She has as many as four films releasing this year itself and another three films to shoot. And we are told that in none of these would she be playing just a certain hero's love-interest. These are all meaty roles and well-rounded scripts that have been offered to her.
Taapsee will first be seen in 'Soorma', the Sandeep Singh biopic with Diljit Dosanjh which releases on 13th July, followed by the immediate release of Anubhav Sinha's 'Mulk' on 27th July. Soon after she will star in Anurag Kashyap's romantic drama 'Manmarziyaan' which is due for release in September. Apart from these, she has a Telugu film titled 'Neevevaroo' which releases in the second half of the year.
The actress will begin shooting Sujoy Ghosh's films next year, which will reunite her with her Pink co-star Amitabh Bachchan. Later, she will hop onto the sets of an unannounced bilingual film which will be released in Tamil and Telugu. She will later do a two-heroine project 'Womaniya' with Kriti Sanon.
The second actress to have the maximum number of films in her film-bank is Kriti Sanon. Like you all, even we had expected to see names like Alia Bhatt or Anushka Sharma here but it's Kriti who is the second most busiest actor in B.Town.
This will give you a better idea of the scenario -
