Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan are two stalwarts of Indian cinema. The veterans have taken Bollywood and Tollywood to a whole new level with their impressive filmography and impactful performances. In the recent release, Kalki 2898 AD, both actors won praise for their towering performance. Before Prabhas-starrer, Amit and Kamal shared the screen in Geraftaar (1985), with another cinema icon- Rajinikanth.
Today we will discuss a film that starred Bachchan and Haasan in the lead. The shoot commenced, and the film was completed by 50%. However, the Bollywood megastar left the film midway, because he was reportedly 'insecure' about Kamal, leading to shelve the movie.
The film of Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan that got shelved was...
Khabardar, Directed by Telugu director Tatineni Rama Rao, the film was a social drama centred upon a terminally ill patient and a doctor. However, after a few months shoot, the film got shelved as Amitabh Bachchan reportedly walked out of it.
Why did Amitabh Bachchan walk out from Khabardar?
As per the report of Times Of India, in an old interview, director Bhagyaraj revealed that Amitabh thought Kamal would overpower him, and walk away with all the praises. The portal quoted Bhagyaraj saying, "According to the script, Kamal Haasan has to die and only then it would be apt for the story. But then, Kamal Haasan will have all the name from the film and Amitabh's character would not stand in the people's mind much. This didn't sit well with Amitabh and he said he can't do the film and he doesn't want to spoil the name he has made over the years for one film. He then offered bulk dates to the producers of Khabardar as compensation." A year later, they both worked with Rajinikanth in Geraftaar.
Amitabh and Kamal in Kalki 2898 AD
(Spoiler alert) Amitabh's Ashwatthama and Kamal's Supreme Yaskin didn't face each other in the film. But, as the movie ends, we can expect that they both will collide in Kalki Part Two, and it would be interesting to see the face-off between the two acting legends.
