On Monday, OMG 2 earned Rs 12 crore net in India, only a 30% drop from its Sunday collection of Rs 17 crore, and an increase from its opening day number of Rs 10.26 crore. Given that most films drop by 50-70% on Mondays, this is a very healthy sign for OMG 2. Add to it the fact that Tuesday is a national holiday on account of Independence Day, the film has given itself a solid chance of having a good lifetime run. After four days, OMG 2’s domestic haul stands at Rs 55 crore. The film should look to breach the 100-crore mark by its second weekend easily.

While OMG 2 has not done exceedingly well overseas, its collections have been decent in the foreign markets. So far, the film has earned just over a million dollars overseas, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 75 crore. This has led to trade insiders giving their verdict that the film, in all likeliness, will emerge as a clean hit. This is good news for Akshay Kumar, who has starred in five successive flops since his last clean hit – Sooryavanshi – almost 20 months ago.

OMG 2, directed by Amit Rai, also stars Yami Gautam, Arun Govil, and Pavan Raj Malhotra in pivotal roles. The film has recieved favourable reviews and is doing well because of some positive word of mouth. However, it must be noted that its success has come despite an A-rating and some pre-release controversies, which had threatened to limit its visibility.
