Salman Khan appeared in a cameo in a 2000 film starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have been married for over 17 years now. The couple, who have a daughter – Aaradhya – together, have starred in a number of films opposite and with each other, many of them before they even began dating. In one such film, by a twist of fate, the future couple shared screen space with Salman Khan, Aishwarya’s now-ex and then-boyfriend. But more than just the coincidence of them being together in one scene, it’s the contents of the scene that is now making it viral.

The only scene featuring Abhishek, Aishwarya, and Salman

Aishwarya and Salman began dating in 1998 when they were filming Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and were Bollywood’s it couple over the next five years until their break up. In 2000, Aishwarya began working on Raj Kanwar’s Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke, which starred newcomer Abhishek Bachchan opposite her. A remake of A Walk in the Clouds, the film had a scene where Abhishek’s character is trying to get away from Aishwarya’s character in order to let her marry the man her family wants her to. At this point, he hitches a ride in a truck. The driver of the truck was played by Salman in a cameo.

The full scene, which is widely being shared on Instagram and YouTube these days, shows Salman humming his popular song ‘Aate Jaate Jo Milta Hai’. Abhishek’s character then imagines that he can see Aishwarya standing by the road as the truck drives by, to which Salman’s truck driver character ad libs the song to hum, “Humse pooch tanha rehna kaisa lagta hai (Ask us how it feels to stay alone).”

Commenting on the song after the clip was shared online, fans said it was prophetic since Salman has stayed unmarried all his life. “SK singing about tanha rehnaa was personal and emotional,” wrote one fan. Another wrote, “Only Salman Khan can explain his future in his present time with 100 % accuracy.”

Salman and Aishwarya’s relationship

Salman and Aishwarya fell out in 2002 after she accused him of domestic abuse. The bitter break up caused quite a furore in Bollywood after Salman landed up on the sets of Chalte Chalte (which Aishwarya was starring in), causing her to be fired from the film and a fistfight between Salman and the film’s lead Shah Rukh Khan. Salman later dated Katrina Kaif and Iulia Vantur among other but remains single to date. Aishwarya went on to date Vivek Oberoi for a brief period in the early 2000s, before she and Abhishek got into a relationship while filming Guru in 2007. The two got married on April 20, 2007.
