After a decent day one at the ticket windows despite the protests and some cinema halls not screening the film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat saw a huge rise in its collections on day two. The public holiday on the occasion of Republic Day seems to have worked for the advantage of the film that stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the leads.
Early estimates suggest that Padmaavat has managed to rake in a staggering sum of Rs 32 crore approx on day two of its release. The movie had collected Rs 19 crore on Thursday and Rs 5 crore from the paid previews that took place on Wednesday. This makes the total collections to stand at Rs 56 crore so far.
One cannot ignore the fact that the film hasn't been released in places like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar. Else the collections were expected to be close to Rs 70 crore in two days. Given the present circumstances, the box office numbers look great.
Padmaavat has been appreciated by the audience and the critics alike. There's strong word of mouth for the film which also seems to be working in its favour. Considering the kind of response that the film is getting, one can expect Padmaavat to cross the Rs 100 crore mark easily over the long weekend.
Moreover, there's no big release in the next week as well. That should give a 12 day window to the film to rake in even more moolah at the box office. The film is made at a budget of a humongous Rs 180 crore and later Rs 20 crore was spent in converting it to 3D and IMAX formats.
