The much-awaited trailer of Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor's upcoming romantic drama, 'Namaste England', finally released on Thursday and it's nothing what we had expected. The first installment of Vipul Amrutlal Shah's pet franchise, 'Namaste London', proved to be a milestone in Katrina Kaif's Bollywood career. The film not just established the fact that 'Katrina can act' but also revived Vipul's directorial career.
The latest one, however, doesn't seem capable of doing either. 'Namaste England', in Parineeti's own words, is the 'biggest film' of her career. This is the film that she had apparently dreamt of doing since a long time. It also reunites her with her 'Ishaqzaade' (2007) co-star Arjun Kapoor. But, if we are to judge the film by it's trailer then sorry, all we can say to the team is - 'All The Best'.
The trailer talks about small-town lovebirds Param (Arjun) and Jasmeet (Parineeti) who rush into marriage after a what looks like just a few weeks of dating (read forced flirting). Then one fine day, the Mrs realises her 'sapne' and runs away to London, leaving behind her husband. Param, like Badri (Varun Dhawan) in 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania' and Arjun Singh (Akshay Kumar) in 'Namaste London', flies to British capital to win back the love of his life. So original! (Slow claps)
The women-empowerment angle looks forced, to say the least. Parineeti and Arjun lack chemistry. The spark that directors and the audience saw in them in 'Ishaqzaade' seems to have gotten lost somewhere in the YRFesque Punjab ke Khet and London landscapes. Nonsensical dialogues like "Duniya aaj bhi ek hi cheez pe kaayam hai, jiski wajah se duniya kaayam hai...pyaar" only add to the misery of the viewer. And, wait what's with the dubbing? Arjun and Parineeti sound not just unnatural but also terribly out of form.
