Complaint against Pathaan producer, director, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of people.

A written complaint has been submitted to Mumbai police seeking the registration of an FIR in connection with the saffron dresses worn by actor Deepika Padukone in the song 'Besharam Rang' in the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Pathaan', an official said on Monday.

The complaint against the producer, director and lead cast of the film Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of people and "intentional" use of the colour saffron to offend Hindu religion was submitted on Saturday, the Sakinaka police station official said.

The complaint by an activist alleged the song promotes vulgarity among the youth and could also cause law and order disruptions in society, the official added. The song has been at the centre of protests from some right-wing groups, with effigies of Khan and others being set on fire in Indore in Madhya Pradesh and other parts.

Incidentally, even Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra had taken objection to the colour of the outfits used by the cast in the song.

Meanwhile, actress Ratna Pathak Shah also reacted to the whole issue. The Kapoor & Sons actress told IndianExpress.com in an interview, "I would say we are living in very silly times, if these are the things that are on top of your mind. It isn’t something that I would like to talk about very much or give much credence to."

"But I am hoping that there are many more sensible people in India than are visible at the moment. They will come through, because what is happening, this sense of fear, sense of exclusion is not sustainable", the wife of another acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah added.

Ratna, whose next film Kutch Express releases on January 6, concluded, "I feel humans cannot sustain hate beyond a point. There is an uprise, but then you get exhausted with hate. I am waiting for that day to come. Look at our country, the pandemic has wiped-out small-scale manufacturing in our country, people don’t have enough to eat, and we are fussing over who is wearing what clothes?".
