Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have finally announced their engagement. Ending months of speculation, the much-in-love couple had a roka ceremony at PC’s Juhu residence yesterday morning.
WE TOLD YOU FIRST
After Hrs was the first to tell you that Priyanka and her beau had planned something special on August 18. We had also reported how the US-based pop star’s family was likely to be present at the occasion, too. We were proved right when Nick along with his parents — Denise Miller Jonas and Paul Kevin Jonas, Sr — flew down on August 16. PC had sent out messages to her family members and close friends to mark August 18 on their calendar without giving exact details of the event planned.
Well, it all became clear when yesterday morning, when her near and dear ones started showing up at her residence in traditional finery. A roka ceremony was held at the actress’ home with a party scheduled to take place the same evening. For the do, PC opted for a yellow salwar kameez designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND
Before her birthday on July 18, Nick had closed down a Tiffany store in New York City to buy her an engagement ring. Reportedly, it weighs around four carats and costs approximately $200,000. The same rock became the talk of the town when Raveena Tandon Thadani posted a picture on her social media handle with Priyanka sporting it.
Earlier, PC had sent the paparazzi in a tizzy when she slipped the ring from her finger and tucked it into the pocket of her denims while exiting the New Delhi airport. While her Bajirao Mastani co-star Deepika Padukone will tie the knot on November 20, it remains to be seen what date and location, the Quantico actress picks to walk down the aisle.
MEET THE BRIDEGROOM
As for those who tuned in late, Nick is a popular singer-songwriter, record producer and actor. He had a successful run with his first band — the Jonas Brothers — with his siblings Joe and Kevin. His debut album as a solo artiste, Who I am (2010) may have seen moderate success but post the trio disbanding in 2013, his subsequent solo releases Nick Jonas (2014) and Last Year Was Complicated (2016) have been big hits. The latter was his highest-peaking entry (at number two) as a solo artiste on the Billboard 200.The 25-year-old’s recent collaborations, Find You, Remember I Told You, and Anywhere with DJ Mustard have raked in a positive response, critically and commercially and indicate a good upcoming record. On the acting front, after Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, the Jealous and Chains hitmaker will be seen in the sci-fi thriller Chaos Walking.
Interestingly, Nick is fast getting familiar with all things Indian. For one, he’s getting used to the Indian paparazzi. During his current trip to Mumbai, he’s not only being addressed by photographers as ‘Nick bhai’, but he’s also acknowledging and responding to them, giving them his pictures, looking ‘left’, ‘right’ and ‘centre’ to their requests.
The American singer-composer is also developing a taste for Indian cuisine. At a high-profile event, where he accompanied Priyanka, during his previous visit to the city, special desi khana without mirch-masala was prepared for him. We hear he savoured the delicacies that were not ‘hot and spicy’, but ‘just right’ for his palate.
