Rani Mukerji recently impressed everyone with her performance in her latest release Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. The actress was recently seen talking about a grave personal tragedy that she suffered from before filming the movie at an event.
Recently, Rani Mukerji attended the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023, and according to Business Today, while speaking at the event, the actress revealed that she lost her second baby five months into her pregnancy during the Covid-19 pandemic. The actress said, “Maybe this is the first time I am making this revelation because, in today’s world, every aspect of your life is discussed publicly, and becomes an agenda for talking about your film to get more eyeballs.”
She added, “Obviously, I didn’t speak about this when I was promoting the film because it would have come across as me trying to speak about a personal experience that would propel the film…so, it was around the year when COVID-19 struck. It was 2020. I got pregnant with my second baby at the end of 2020 and I unfortunately lost my baby five months into my pregnancy.”
Rani Mukerji further revealed that Mrs Chatterji vs Norway producer Nikhil Advani called her just 10 days after her loss to narrate the script and said, “After I lost my baby, Nikhil (Advani) would have called me probably like 10 days later. He told me about the story and I kind of immediately… not that I had to have the loss of a child to feel the emotion but sometimes there is a film at the right time about what you are going through personally to be able for you to connect with it instantly. When I heard the story, I was in disbelief. I never thought in a country like Norway an Indian family would have had to go through.”
She also revealed that neither her producer nor the director knew that she had lost the baby and added, “When they see this interview, they will be quite shocked.”
Helmed by Ashima Chibber, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway stars Rani Mukerji, Jim Sarbh, Anirban Bhattacharya, and Neena Gupta among others. Released on March 17, the movie opened to a positive response from the audience who appreciated the actress’ performance in the movie.
Produced by Nikhil Advani, Monisha Advani, and Madhu G. Bhojwani, the film is based on a real-life incident and tells the story of an immigrant Indian mother who fights the Norwegian foster care system and legal machinery to win back custody of her children.
