Ranveer Singh is on a roll. He has not only wowed us with his incredible acting in two blockbusters — Padmaavat and Simmba — last year, but today, he has also emerged as a singing sensation. Everyone is aware that he plays the protagonist in Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming film Gully Boy. However, they should make note of the fact that now, he has become a rapper/hip-hop artiste, too, as he has actually sung four songs in the album.
Two of the tracks — Asli Hip Hop and Apna Time Aayega — have already broken the internet. His third number, Mere Gully Mein, which was dropped a few days ago, is steadily climbing up the charts.
Ranveer seems to be doing nothing wrong currently as his debut as a singer has gone through the roof, which makes him the first ever actor to be accepted as a rapper/hip-hop artiste in India. Wonder what his wife, Deepika Padukone, has to say on this one.
Talking about his new-found success as a vocalist, the powerhouse performer told After Hrs, “Hip-hop ran deep inside me ever since I was a kid and my love for the music only grew bigger with time. Rap, somehow, used to always excite me. So, I’m thrilled to be working in Zoya’s film and also rapping in it.”
He explains that his passion for this genre inspired him thoroughly. “Even when I was a copywriter, everything that I used to pen would have a rhyme scheme to it. So, being a fan of the music, I developed an ability to write in such a way,” he says. Bring it on Ranveer. Yeh dil maange more!
