Ranveer Singh will soon take to the nets for Kabir Khan’s ’83 adapted from Indian cricketing legend and all-rounder Kapil Dev’s life. The Bollywood superstar is bound to score a few centuries on the field at that point. However, right here, right now, he has just scored a century at the Indian box office with Rohit Shetty’s Simmba.
Even his harshest critics have complimented Ranveer’s performance as a corrupt cop who turns over a new leaf. His turn as the saviour of women and those who’ve been wronged has struck a chord with cinegoers across the country and overseas.
Speaking exclusively to After Hrs, Ranveer says, “As an artiste, I’ve always wanted to entertain viewers, at the same time offering something new to them with every film. My constant endeavour has been to keep pushing myself to evolve as an actor. With Simmba again, I was doing something absolutely new, thus adding a new dimension to my repertoire.” He adds, “I had not done this kind of an out-and-out masala entertainer earlier; a kind of movie I had always wanted to do. I’m extremely grateful to the audience for the love they have showered on my performance and on the film. It is encouraging and truly humbling. It has been an absolutely incredible year for me. (He began the year with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat.) The success of Simmba makes it an ideal way to end 2018 — on a huge, huge high.”
The energetic actor has found a mentor and a guide in director Rohit Shetty. The former credits Simmba’s triumph at the BO to the latter’s vision and his ability of ‘knowing’ the pulse of the audience. “I want to thank Rohit Shetty for believing in me and making me his hero! Sir’s vision, propelled by the collective effort of his entire team, is the sole reason why Simmba hit the bullseye. It has been an absolute honour to work with him and his stellar team. Their large-hearted mentoring and exemplary work ethic has spurred a tremendous growth in me as a performer. I look forward to our next creative collaboration,” he signs off from his vacation with his wife, the doe-eyed beauty, Deepika Padukone.
