Actor and father of Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor has yet not been able to digest the failure of his son’s film Bombay Velvet.
Undoubtedly the film was below average and Ranbir couldn’t have done anything to save the sinking boat, but as a father, Rishi has all the reasons to be upset with the makers.
Rishi Kapoor is pissed with the director of Bombay Velvet, Anurag Kashyap.
In his recent chat with the Huffington Post, he blamed Anurag (Kashyap) for not utilising the films’ budget correctly and also targeted Anurag Basu for Jagga Jasoos.
When the actor was asked to comment on the fact that he enjoyed Sanju and not Bombay Velvet and Jagga Jasoos, he said, “Anurag Kashyap (Bombay Velvet). You give him so much money, he literally didn’t know what to do with it. Jagga Jasoos was such a bad film, such a bad story. It was absolutely rubbish. I questioned Ranbir and he said, 'Papa, the man who gave me Barfi, how could I question his…'. I thought he’d be responsible enough to know to keep the story at its point.”
However, Rishi Kapoor during the same chat concurred that he doesn’t interfere with Ranbir’s career and as has maintained a rather formal relationship with him, but said that he completely supported the latter's decision to sign Sanju and credits him for taking such a risky subject.
Rishi told the website, “Everybody said what is Ranbir doing and again it’s going to go down the drain and Ranbir is finished and this and that. They all said that. I said that it is his choice and he’s an actor, he will go through these experiences. He’ll learn from his mistakes."
The proud father also went on to say that he saw the amount of labour his boy had put as an actor to make the film what it is today and he is happy that his son took up the film.
Rishi Kapoor will next be seen in Mulk, which also stars Taapsee Pannu and Ashutosh Rana.
Helmed by Anubhav Sinha, the film is slated to release on August 3.
