Robert De Niro and Anna Hathway shouldered-film 'The Intern' is getting ready for its Hindi remake. The movie would star Deepika Padukone and Rishi Kapoor in titular roles. Rishi, like the original plot, would play the senior intern to Deepika in the movie.
Sunir Kheterpal and Deepika Padukone will be producing under their banners - AZURE Entertainment and Ka Productions respectively. The adaptation will be readied for a 2021 release.
Stating that he is excited to be working with Deepika, Rishi Kapoor said, "'The Intern' is a very relevant film for the present-day Indian workplace milieu and it showcases human relationships beautifully. I am very excited to be working with Deepika and being a part of this heart-warming story. It is great that Warner Bros. and AZURE are officially making this film in India."
Deepika Padukone, who recently won the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum 2020, added, “'The Intern' is an intimate, relationship-driven film, set in and around the workplace; a story that I believe is very relevant to the present-day social and cultural environment. I have been looking for a light, breezy comedy-drama and this story fits in seamlessly. I cannot wait to begin this journey.”
While Sunir Kheterpal, co-producer with Deepika, stated, “We are thankful to Warner Bros. and Nancy Meyers for entrusting us with the first-ever adaptation of 'The Intern' outside of the US. 'The Intern' would bring Deepika and Rishi Kapoor in the same frame for the first time. They previously worked in the movies 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Love Aaj Kal' but never shared the same screen.
Deepika has portrayed successful chemistry on-screen with Rishi's son Ranbir Kapoor. It would now be interesting to see Deepika and Rishi Kapoor in 'The Intern'.
