Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh wore Sabyasachi creations for their pre-wedding, wedding and post-wedding ceremonies, turns out that DP's Konkani wedding saree wasn't actually a Sabyasachi creation...

Deepika Padukone tied the knot with her beau Ranveer Singh in an Italian destination wedding, spread over two days. The actors first got married in South Indian style Konkani wedding on November 14 and then in North Indian Sindhi style in an Anand Karaj ceremony on November 15. The ensembles donned by the couple during the various functions of their wedding ceremonies too became the talk of the town. Deepika and Ranveer chose Sabyasachi Mukherjee's creations for the special days of their wedding ceremonies, and the ace designer claimed that he had not only styled all of their ensembles but also that the couple was clad 'head to toe' in Sabyasachi outfits.

Now, on Monday, Deepika and Ranveer shared some adroable candid pictures from their Mehendi, Konkani and Sindhi wedding ceremonies on their social media pages. Sabyasachi's social media pages shared all the pictures, claiming that both Ranveer and Deepika were donned 'head to toe' in Sabyasachi creations. However, turns out that's actually not true.

The gorgeous saree in red and gold that adorned Deepika during her Konkani wedding ceremony wasn't exactly a Sabyasachi creation. Just the veil and the accessories were by the ace designer but the saree was from a popular silk store in Bengaluru called Angadi Galleria. One of the fashion journalists shared the information with the designer and others via her Instagram post.

"Deepika Padukone's Kanjeevaram red gold wedding sari worn by her for the Mangalorean wedding ceremony with a Sabyasachi veil and jewellery was an Advaya sari from the House of Angadi, Bangalore" says Radharaman K, the store founder in an email to @thevofashion. As per tradition, the bride wears a sari given by the mother and the red gold sari is a real zari Kanjeevaram. "The body design is the Gandaberunda (two headed bird) the mythological figure that is also represented as the coat of arms of the Mysore Maharaja and subsequently Karnataka," adds Radharaman. He added that the veil was not theirs and the sari had been duly purchased from their store by Deepika herself along with another sari and there was no commercial or personal arrangement behind it. When I brought it to the notice of @sabyasachiofficial with Radharaman's permission, the designer instantly responded that it was indeed given by the bride's mother to them. They trimmed and styled it. @sabyasachiofficial also added with grace and clarity about credit where due that while the sari's details were not known earlier, once the store name has been brought to their notice and after it is verified, it must be rightfully credited.

As soon as Sabyasachi got to know about the matter, he shared an official statement on his Instagram page which read:

A NOTIFICATION
As per Konkani tradition, the bride's saree is gifted to her by the mother for her wedding. Deepika's wedding saree was given to us by her mother- Mrs Ujjala Padukone. We have just received information that the saree was bought from Angadi Galleria, Bengaluru and we would like to give due credit for the same.

But looks like the damage had already been done. A lot of netizens brutally trolled the designer for reasons more than one. While some pointed out that how can Sabyasachi not know wheter a particular piece of clothing is his design or not, while others blamed poor PR machinery.

Here are some of the reactions:
