Buoyed by the response, the makers are apparently sparing no efforts in making the second outing bigger than the first.

The makers of the web series Sacred Games, are gearing up for its second season. Based on author Vikram Chandra’s best-selling novel by the same name, the games of betrayal, crime, passion, and a thrilling chase through Mumbai’s underbelly, are said to get deadlier this time around. Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte and Neeraj Kabi among several others were lauded for their performances that also made the premiere season a talking point.

Buoyed by the response, the makers are apparently sparing no efforts in making the second outing bigger than the first. Reportedly, not only the budget is being upscaled, but even the principal actors are getting a fee hike. The series continues with Sartaj Singh (Saif) pursuing his relentless battle of saving the city and Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin) facing bigger challenges to retain his position as the legendary kingpin of Mumbai. The intriguing Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi), introduced in premiere outing as Gaitonde’s ‘third father,’ plays a pivotal part in unfolding a chain of events that shape the next season, which is scheduled to film in India and locations overseas later this year.

Anurag Kashyap, who helmed the first season, will continue directing Gaitonde’s track while Neeraj Ghaywan (of Masaan fame) will help Sartaj Singh’s plot. The next season promises a mix of old favourites and new characters to drive the storyline to its intrepid twists and turns.

Erik Barmack, Vice President, International Originals at Netflix, said, “We’ve been thrilled by the response to Sacred Games from fans worldwide, and especially in India, to this high-quality production. It’s incredibly exciting for us to take the story forward and open a new chapter in the series with its second season.”
