Strong rumours suggest that the much-appreciated web series Sacred Games (based on Vikram Chandra’s novel by the same name), starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique and Radhika Apte, may not have its second season.
It’s funny how until yesterday, things seemed to be on course for this Netflix original. In fact, a trade source had told us, “Director Anurag Kashyap has spoken to the Netflix team and even met with some of the important office-bearers overseas and Season 2 is definitely on.”
We were even informed that Anurag and his only partner Vikramaditya Motwane, who are also co-directing the series, would actually be getting paid much more for it. Even the actors were expected to get a spike in their remuneration.
However, post the defamation notice from Vikas Bahl to his warring partners, Anurag and Vikramaditya, one hears that Sacred Games’ Season 2 is in jeopardy. In the wake of the #MeToo Movement, in which Phantom is deeply embroiled, one hears there will be a committee within Netflix that will review the decision on whether the international entertainment giant wants to continue its association with Phantom.
We texted Anurag and Vikramaditya to know if there was any truth to this. However, neither of them had responded till the time of going to press. We also contacted Netflix and got a reply via email saying, “At this time, we are evaluating options on the path forward.”
