Like every Salman Khan-starrer that generates curiosity from the time of its announcement, Dabangg 3 is no different. The newest instalment, which comes six years after Dabangg 2, apparently, sees supercop Chulbul Pandey moving to Ghaziabad after his transfer from Kanpur. Industry sources tell us that this time around, Robinhood Pandey, as the character is also known, is said to be inspired by a real-life cop, who was once posted in Noida. Says a source, “While Chulbul remains as entertaining as ever, certain aspects of the real policeman are being incorporated into his character. Many years ago, this real cop had made news for his handling of a case involving a politician.

When Dilip Shukla (who co-wrote Dabangg and penned Dabangg 2) discussed the idea with the Khans for the third outing, they felt it was the right subject to take the franchise ahead. But, of course, the real story is being treated cinematically in keeping with the series’ core essence.”

While Dabangg was helmed by Abhinav Kashyap and the second marked Arbaaz Khan’s directorial debut, this film sees Salman team up with Prabhudheva nine years after Wanted. The Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Pokiri not only saw Salman reinvent himself as an actor, but the action flick’s box-office success also proved to be a shot in the arm for single-screen theatres. Dabangg 3 is reportedly scheduled to kick off next month and release on the Republic Day weekend of 2019.
