Sanju: Aamir Khan reveals the real reason why he turned down Sunil Dutt's role in Sanjay Dutt biopic

Recently, several reports suggested that Aamir Khan was initially offered the role of Sunil Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani directorial Sanju. The film, which is a biopic based on the life and times of Sanjay Dutt, has Ranbir Kapoor playing the character of Sanjay Dutt on screen. While speculations were rife as to why Aamir Khan refused to play father to Ranbir Kapoor in Sanju, now, Aamir has himself cleared the air on the matter.

While interacting with a group of mediapersons on completion of 30 years in Indian cinema, Aamir shared that Raju Hirani had come to him with the script of Sanju and expressed that he wanted him (Aamir) to play Sunil Dutt's part. But Aamir was so smitten by Sanjay Dutt's character that he couldn't imagine himself being a part of the film and palying anyone else other that Sanjay Dutt. 

Aamir explained, "I told Raju, Sanjay Dutt's role is so great that it has won my heart. So in this film, I can't do any other role but that of Sanjay Dutt, which I can't do as Ranbir Kapoor is doing it. So, don't offer me any other role as I won't be able to do it. I can't come to the sets thinking these should have been my lines."

The actor added, "That (Sanjay Dutt's) role has won my heart and I am sure Ranbir has done it really well, he is a fantastic actor. I can't wait to watch the film and Ranbir's performance in it."

Aamir Khan has previously worked with Raju Hirani in films like 3 Idiots and PK. After Aamir turned down the role of Sunit Dutt in Sanju, the part went to Paresh Rawal. The film is slated to hit the theatres on June 29.
