Headlined by Shah Rukh Khan in a double role of Captain Vikram Rathore and Azad, Jawan stormed the box office when it was released last year in September and grossed Rs 1160 crore at the global box office. It became the second highest-grossing Hindi film after Dangal and the fifth highest-grossing Indian film after Dangal, Baahubali 2, RRR, and KGF Chapter 2.
The masala action entertainer, which marked the director Atlee's Bollywood debut, is now set to release in Japan on November 29. On Wednesday, July 3, trade expert Sumit Kadel shared the poster for its Japan release on his X (previously known as Twitter) account and wrote, "Jawan to release in Japan on 29th Nov 2024. This could take the total worldwide gross of Jawan to above Rs 1200 crore."
This could mean that Jawan could go pass KGF Chapter 2 and RRR at the global box office. Yash-starrer and Jr NTR, Ram Charan-starrer earned Rs 1215 crore and Rs 1230 crore at the worldwide box office. Baahubali 2, which had earned Rs 1788 crore globally, is still far ahead of Jawan and it would be nearly impossible for Shah Rukh Khan-starrer to come even closer to the SS Rajamouli film because the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan, RRR collected Rs 120 crore in the foreign nation.
Apart from Jawan, the Atlee directorial also starred Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sunil Grover, and Sanya Malhotra in supporting roles. The film was produced by Shah Rukh's home banner Red Chillies Entertainment.
