Shah Rukh Khan has been having one of the best years of his life in terms of box office earnings. He started the year with Pathaan, the all-time highest grossing Hindi film in India. And now his second release Jawan is on course to break that record, it seems. Shah Rukh is set to be seen next in Dunki, which is slated for a December release. However, recent reports suggested that the film has been postponed. On Friday, the star himself talked about the film’s release.
Shah Rukh was speaking at the Jawan success meet in Mumbai on Friday evening where he addressed media and fans. Talking about his miraculous year, the actor said, “I am not trying to show off. God has been very kind that we have had Pathaan. God has been even kinder with Jawan.”
Then, without mentioning any reports of delay, he confirmed that Dunki is indeed coming to the theatres on Christmas. “We started on 26 January, Republic Day, it’s a good, auspicious day. Then on Janmashtami – Lord Krishna’s birthday – we released this film. And now on Christmas, we will bring Dunki. National integration rakhta hoon (I keep national integration).”
Then, as a parting note, the star joked, “Waise bhi jab meri film release hoti hai to Eid hoti hi hai (Anyway whenever my film releases, it’s like Eid).” Dunki, which marks Shah Rukh’s first collaboration with director Rajkumar Hirani, also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. The film is releasing in theatres in the final week of December. This is the first time since 2004 that Shah Rukh is seeing three releases in a year. What makes this prolific run even more special is that it has come after a hiatus of four years. Before Pathaan, Shah Rukh’s last release was Zero in 2018.
Jawan, directed by Atlee, is going strong at the box office meanwhile. The action thriller has grossed nearly Rs 700 crore worldwide and Rs 400 crore in India alone, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, behind only Pathaan.
