After taking a break for 13 years from the film industry, this actress made a strong comeback with a TV show in 2013.

Actress Shilpa Shirodkar, former photo model, worked in Hindi-language films from 1989 to 2000. She made her acting debut with Bhrashtachar in the year 1989 which starred Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha. She played the role of a blind girl in it.

She then starred opposite Anil Kapoor in the hit 1990 film Kishen Kanhaiya. Shilpa then also starrd in Trinetra (1991), Hum (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Aankhen (1993), Pehchaan (1993), Gopi Kishan (1994), Bewafa Sanam (1995) and Mrityudand (1997).

In 2000, Shilpa appeared in Gaja Gamini after which she decided to quit films after her marriage. After taking a break for 13 years, the actress made a strong comeback with Zee TV's new show Ek Mutthi Aasmaan, based on the life of domestic helpers which was a hit.

In one of the interviews, Shilpa Shirodkar opened up about her struggles in Bollywood and revealed that she was called ‘jinxed.’ While speaking to The Times of India, “By this time everyone in the industry had named me ‘Jinxed’.But Rikkuji didn’t give up on me. He started showing my pictures to everyone in the industry and I bagged Bhrashtachar and my journey in Bollywood began. Mithun Da helped me a lot, he was instrumental in my jinxed tag to be wiped out.”

She added, “So yes, I didn’t come with all the frills and fancies but I made it. Honestly, for me, all my films are very dear to me. But yes, there are a few films which if released would have made a big, big difference in my career. Kalinga which was directed by Dilip Saab, Singer opposite Ajay Devgn which was directed by Sunil Agnihotri, Ladies Only which was produced by Kamal Hassan were a few films.”

The actress also revealed that she was called fat in 90s and was even rejected for the song Chaiyya Chaiyya which later went to Malaika Arora. She said, “Well who would ever want to lose out on Chaiyya Chaiyya… But yes, Farah Khan had come with the song and she said they were considering me for it. But then they thought I was too fat so they opted for Malaika.”

She further added, “If I had to debut in today's time I don’t think I would get work. Imagine in the 90s they called me fat, abhi God knows what they would call me.”
