Sonu Sood is 'overwhelmed, extremely grateful' on being appointed the state icon of Punjab

Sonu Sood grabbed the nation's attention for his work in helping migrants reach their homes during the coronavirus induced lockdown.

Actor Sonu Sood has been in the news all of the lockdown for the helping hand that he provided for those less privileged. Now, the actor has been announced as the Punjab state icon by the Election Commission of India, an official statement said here on Monday. 

The statement quoting Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Karuna Raju said his office had sent a proposal to the ECI in this regard and they approved the same.

Belonging to the Moga district of Punjab, Sood catapulted to the national spotlight for his work in helping migrants reach their homes during the coronavirus induced lockdown. Sood arranged transport facilities for migrant labourers stuck in various places to their homes and his humanitarian work was highly appreciated by all sections of society.

Reacting to the news, the Dabangg actor also expressed his happiness and said, "I am overwhelmed and extremely grateful for this honour. Having been born in Punjab, this appointment means so much to me, emotionally. I am happy to have made my state proud of me and I am motivated to keep working hard."

In other news, Sood who has been hailed as a real-life hero for his relief efforts during the coronavirus pandemic feels that he still has a long way to go before he is the subject of a biopic. 

He also revealed the one condition on which he would allow a film to be made on his life. In an interview with SpotboyE, the actor said that he would want to play himself in his biopic as he has "earned the right to be in it". 

Sood also clarified that right now it is "too early" to make a film on his life. He said, "I think it’s too early to do a film on me. I’ve so many more appointments to keep. So many goals to achieve. But there are producers out there who insist there is not just one, but many movies in the past few months of my life. But I don’t know if I am ready to have my life out on screen."
