Till now, the makers of Student Of The Year 2 have released three dance numbers — The Jawaani Song, Mumbai Dilli Di Kudiyaan and The Hook Up Song. But what’s a love story without a romantic track? Now, the team is offering the audience such a treat. Fakira, sung by Sanam Puri and Neeti Mohan, is the first romantic ditty from the Tiger Shroff-Ananya Panday-Tara Sutaria-starrer.
Director Punit Malhotra says he was looking for a soulful track that would instantly connect with people, especially the youth and Fakira fit the bill. “We were stuck at a point where we were wondering what kind of a romantic number should we have. Student Of The Year (2012) had Ishq Wala Love, which was a big hit and we wanted a song that could match up to it in some way. I love Fakira. It has a more Indian melody than Ishq Wala Love, but the idea was not to do something that’s exactly like it. We wanted to do something different. It has a Punjabi touch to it as well,” he says.
Sharing an anecdote about the track, which is filmed on Tiger and Ananya, Punit tells us that the latter actually came to watch Sanam dub the song. “I asked Ananya if she wanted to do so because she wanted to get into character, but she said, ‘No, I want to see Sanam Puri sing!’ I teased Sanam quite a bit about his fan following,” laughs Punit, who gives full credit to music composers Vishal and Shekhar for roping in the singer.
Complementing his soothing voice is Neeti Mohan, who the director admires, for the youthful energy she brings to the table. Shot across 32 locations in Dehradun and Mussoorie, Fakira releases today.
