Deepika Padukone may have got a bit of flak for some of her questionable red-carpet appearances, but recently, she has more than made up for that by cleaning up well at the airport. Have a look at all of her travel pap shots and she looks impeccably well-coordinated and up-to-the-second chic. From her reflector sunnies to her track pants and monochrome basics — she marries classic uptown with a hint of classic rock and roll and we aren’t complaining. This week, she stopped the traffic in a black boyfriend T-shirt teamed with a pair of matching leather pants and booties at the airport.
Basics Never Looked So Appealing!
Designer Arpita Mehta says, “Deepika has managed to put a smile on our faces, showing us how airport styles can be non-fussy, easy, comfortable as well as cool. She’s the perfect example of ‘steez’ i.e. style with ease.” The Padmaavat actress has successfully managed to marry comfort with style, which has worked wonderfully for her. Designer Swapna Anumolu of label Mishru says, “DP’s travel style shows a reflection of her outlook towards comfort and casualness. She keeps it simple and elegant yet classy.”
Sporty Luxe Meets Boho
Even though Deepika’s looks range from sporty luxe to boho casual, she pairs classic basics with a hint of quirk. Designer Rhea Pillai Rastogi shares, “There is one element that stays constant which is comfort, and that’s essential while travelling.”
The last thing you want is to be overdressed and awkwardly strutting through the security check,” says designer Rhea Pillai Rastogi. How does one borrow from her airport avatar? Rhea adds, “She really knows how to stock up on the basics in neutral colours like an oversized khaki jacket or tank tops in nude, black grey and simple solid hues that can be used for best casual looks. The key is to think out of the box which can be something like wearing a comfy summer dress over your favourite pair of well-fitted denims.”
Designer Sameer Madan seconds that. “I think her trick to the whole travel style is keeping it real. In today’s time what people need is reality. Her travel style checks all the boxes — comfort, practicality and attainability,” says Sameer.
Effortless Yet Fashion-Forward
Deepika has shown the ability to just work any look under the sun without trying too hard. Designer Suman Bhat of label Lola says, “What I love about her airport looks is that they look so effortless yet fashion-forward. Whether it’s athleisure or a chikankari kurta and mal trousers, she shows us an unbeatable variation and gives us an in-depth look at her personal style.”
