On the occasion of Sunil Dutt's 89th birth anniversary, here's a look at Sanjay Dutt's 5 heartwarming throwback pictures with his father

Born as Balraj Dutt, Sunil Dutt remains one of the prominent figures in Bollywood. Married to yesteryear actress Nargis and father of Sanjay Dutt, Priya and Namrata Dutt, the legendary actor only went on to become an active member of Parliament.

Sunil Dutt gave us memorable films like Mother India, Waqt, Gumra, Yaadein and Ek Phool Char Kaante and was honoured with Padma Shri in 1968. His last appearance on the big screen was in Sanjay Dutt's 2003 film 'Munna Bhai MBBS', where he played the role of Sanju's father on screen as well. Sunil Dutt was not only a loving husband as remembered in Nargis' biography 'Darlingji' but was Sanjay Dutt's strongest pillar of strength in his legal battle as well. Sanjay Dutt was convicted of possession of illegal arms, in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. The actor was released in February 2016 from the Yerwada Jail in Pune after he had served a term of 5 years in jail. His father stood by him through the tough times but left for heavenly abode even before Dutt became a free man.

Rajkumar Hirani's upcoming film 'Sanju' is based on life and times of Sanjay Dutt and will present Paresh Rawal in the role of Sunil Dutt. Revealing the amazing connection between him and Dutt Sr, Paresh Rawal recalled, “Back in 2005 on May 25, I was doing some patchwork for Deewane Huye Pagal. I went to Hotel Lalit as I had landed from US and made a call to my wife Swaroop. She said Dutt saab has sent me a letter. Surprised, I asked why would he write a letter to me? She said it was for my birthday. However, my birthday is on May 30, so I thought why would he write a letter five days in advance. Cut to January 2, 2017, I was at the narration of Sanju at Raju’s house, and I got a call from Swaroop asking me what to do with the letter of Dutt saab that was in the drawer! Earlier, when I would get birthday letters, I would eventually clear them. But for over 12 years, Dutt saab’s letter remained in my drawer. This is the connection; I think I was destined to play Sunil Dutt.”
