Even though Animal turned out to be a blockbuster grossing more than Rs 900 crore worldwide, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer crime drama was slammed by many for glorifying toxic masculinity and showcasing excessive violence. The film continues to invite criticism from many celebrities, even months after its release in December last year.

Now, Taapsee Pannu has said that she would have agreed to do Animal 'on paper' but called out director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's vision for celebrating Ranbir's flawed character in the film. Talking at the Indian Express's edition of Expresso, the actress said, "If I would have read the script of Animal, I would have been equally excited as Ranbir Kapoor. But, the difference is, when you read a script and when you see what you see, it is the director’s medium. When I am reading a script, I don’t know which shot he is putting low angle and high BGM on. I can’t see that through script. It is only the director who can communicate that with the shot-taking and with the post-production. You conceive a certain scene and shot. Heroism, or how you celebrate (a character, depends on how the scene is shot), it will not be on paper."

"It was a little strange to hear cheers and whistles at certain moments and points where I wouldn’t have liked the BGM to grow like that, where the audience is forced to cheer, clap and whistle at certain moments. That’s the issue", the Mulk actress added on how she was disturbed after seeing audiences enjoying the controversial scenes in the film.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Taapsee Pannu will be seen next in Khel Khel Mein. Also starring Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, and Ammy Virk, the film will clash at the box office with John Abraham, Sharvari-starrer Vedaa and Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao-starrer Stree 2 at the box office on August 15.
