Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Aruna Irani-starrer was the official remake of Tamil hit Enga Chinna Rasa (1987). The movie starred K. Bhagyaraj, Radha, and C. R. Saraswathi. The story was inspired by the Kannada novel Ardhaangi by B. Puttaswamayya.
Actors who rejected Beta
Initially, Boney Kapoor was making the film, and he approached Sridevi to cast for the female lead. However, she rejected the film, and later Indra Kumar took the Tamil rights to remake the film and signed Anil and Madhuri for the lead roles. Reportedly, veteran actresses Waheeda Rehman, Sharmila Tagore and Mala Sinha were considered for the role of Laxmi, but they all rejected the film for the negative role. However, when Indra approached his sister, Aruna Irani, with the role, she agreed to do it, and it became a highlight of her career.

Box office collection of Beta
Beta was the highest-grossing film of 1992, earning Rs 23.50 crores domestically. The film also won five Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor (Anil), Best Actress (Madhuri), Best Supporting Actor (Aruna), Best Female Playback Singer (Anuradha Padwal), and Best Choreography (Saroj Khan).
Beta inspired TV serials?
On the completion of 30 years, Indra spoke to Bollywood Hungama, and he opened up about the impact Beta left on makers. He said, "Aaj bhi, TV serial waale Beta ki story ko copy kiye ja rahe hai, kiye ja rahe hai (laughs)! Saare serials ussi pe based hai. Toh mujhe khushi bhi hoti hai ki chalo (meri wajah se) serial waalon ka bhala ho gaya!"
