Superstar who made Mahesh Bhatt walked out from his film

In a recent interview, Mahesh Bhatt revealed that he left directing a blockbuster midway because of its lead actor.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has directed some remarkable films in Bollywood, including Arth, Saaransh, Naam, Kabzaa, Sadak, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Aashiqui, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, and Tamana. However, there was another film, another blockbuster in the making that he left midway directing, because of its lead actor.

The lead actor of this film made him quit directing the film and passed the baton to his brother, Vikram Bhatt. The actor is none other than Aamir Khan and the film we're talking about is Ghulam.

Why did Mahesh stepped down as director for Ghulam?

In an interview with Indian Express, Mahesh Bhatt revealed that he was originally directing Ghulam, but he walked out of the film because of Aamir. Bhatt added that Aamir asked him if he could dedicate his life to Ghulam, and that's when Mahesh decided that his brother, Vikram, was the person who could actually channel his all energy to one project. Mahesh said, "I choose to walk away from it. I told Aamir, I didn’t think movies meant so much to me that I would dedicate my entire life to them. It doesn’t mean so much to me and I’d be lying if I said otherwise."

Mahesh decided to let Vikram direct Ghulam

Mahesh also said that Aamir was surprised with his answer, and further asserted, "I told him if there is one person who can give his life to it, it is Vikram Bhatt. When I saw Ghulam, I announced on stage that he made a better film than I could. That is the victory of a master… That he may give an unlit candle his flame, but when the flame becomes a radiant sun, you bask in that, it is wonderful.” Ghulam was released in cinemas on June 19, 1998, and it became a box-office success. On the work front, Mahesh Bhatt has produced Vikram Bhatt's latest horror film, Bloody Ishq with Avika Gor and Vardaan Puri. The film was released on Disneyplus Hotstar on July 26.
