Rajesh Roshan, Usha Mangeshkar and Lata Mangeshkar had raised questions over the recreation of the song 'Mungda'

Sonakshi Sinha’s version of 'Mungda', which features in Indra Kumar’s movie Total Dhamaal, has received a lot of bashing ever since it released. The song was a recreation of Helen’s song from the movie Inkaar. It was composed by well-known composer Rajesh Roshan and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle’s sister Usha Mangeshkar.

Usha had bashed them saying, “Our songs were created after great deal of thought,” and Lata supported her asking, “No one seeks our consent before using our songs. Is that right?” Rajesh Roshan had accused the filmmaker of having lost confidence to create a new song. Indra responded to that in an interview with Mid-Day saying, “Lack of originality and talent in music is an understatement”.

Responding to Lata Mangeshkar, he added, “We don’t have to take their consent. When 'Neend Churayi Meri' was remade (for Golmaal Again; the original song was from Kumar’s Ishq), no one came to me for approval. The rights belong to the music label, and they (owners of the label) have the right to do what they want to.”

Kumar further justified by saying he’s serving to today’s generation with the beautiful songs, “There is no harm in following trends. This generation has been deprived of those beautiful songs. Our job is to pass on the gems to them. Today’s generation isn’t aware of it. My kids hadn’t heard the original till I made them listen to the new version, and they loved it.”

Total Dhamaal has also reworked the song, ‘Paisa Yeh Paisa’, which was the first song that they unveiled by the name of ‘Paisa’. That song featured majority of the whole cast – Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffery and Sanjay Mishra.
