Kangana Ranaut isn’t one to stay mum when talking about certain current issues. She’s always been known to speak her mind and endure all the adoration and hatred she gets for it. Just recently, she talked about her full support for PM Narendra Modi and how he is the most ‘deserving’ leader of our country and democracy. She decided to take on a few more hot topics for her discussion with spiritual leader, Sadhguru.
The actress talked about a variety of topics such as nationalism and illegal immigrants. Speaking about the latter, Kangana posed the question that while our own children are dying, is it practical to take in people from neighbouring countries, although denying them help would be even worse. Sadhguru replied that we have a porous border, and until we can distinguish Indians from non-Indians, it would be difficult to control. He even joked that if there was really a problem, we could integrate Bangaldesh into India and make it a union territory.
The actress also opened up about cow vigilantism and the recent mob lynching cases, naming a particular incident from the sets of her movie Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi. One of the scenes of the movie depicts Rani Lakshmibai saving a calf. However, during the shoot, the crew decided to alter the scene and had a huge discussion about it, replacing the calf with a lamb. According to Kangana, they didn’t want to look like ‘cow savers’, which she challenged on the grounds that her saving the calf is historically correct.
She explained, “When such a prejudice thrives, as a person you feel very protective of who you are and what your values are, and you want to save all animals and you definitely want to save the cows because the prejudice is really agonising. But (then) lynching for cows takes place and you look like an idiot.”
Kangana then talked about liberals and their contradictions, stating, “Liberals, by definition, are people who have acceptance for other people and opinions, but these liberals will not take you into their group unless you hate the same people as they do. If it's for the betterment of the country, you don't mind hating on BJP, you don't mind believing that everything that is being run by Amit Shah. But what I don't get is what is their (liberals') agenda and plan of action for bringing this country out of the pit. What is that they are doing,"
“A rape takes place in Kashmir and they say ‘Hindustan raped our daughter’ and pointing fingers at each other when the country is so vulnerable and trying to break into a civil war. Is this what liberals do? A more sensible thing seems to be a sceptic. But a sceptic doesn’t know where he is going. So right now we need a definite direction to go into. We cannot be stuck in the unfortunate loop of to be or not to be,” she further went on.
The Krish directorial Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, based on the 1857 heroine Rani Lakshmibai, will be released in theatres on January 25, 2019. Kangana will also be seen in Mental Hai Kya opposite Queen co-star Rajkummar Rao, which releases February 22, 2019.
