The previous pay commission was formed in February 2014, with its recommendations taking effect from January 1, 2016. As such, the 8th Pay Commission is scheduled for implementation on January 1, 2026.

Employee unions are urging the government to expedite the announcement of the 8th Pay Commission. This would initiate the process of forming the wage board, which would consult various stakeholders and submit its recommendations. Completing this entire procedure could take several months.
