Air India announces 50% discount on tickets for students, army personnel and senior citizens: here's how to avail it

To avail the offer, passengers have to purchase tickets at least seven days prior to the date of travel.

Air India has announced an attractive discount of 50% for its selected categories of flyers with effect from September 1. The air carrier took to Twitter to announce the special offer for students, army personnel and senior citizens. 

However, the state-run airline said that the offer is being subjected to "availability of seats".

Air India did not specify the last day of the scheme but has stated that it would offer discounts only on the basic fare on its domestic sectors in Economy Class. To avail the offer, passengers have to purchase tickets at least seven days prior to the date of travel.

Besides the low fare on tickets, customers under this offer can carry 25 Kgs of free check-in baggage.

Students who are of age between 12 to 26 years and are studying in India are eligible for the Air India offer. The student also should be enrolled for a full-time course for minimum time span of a year at a recognized Central or state educational board. 

As for the army personnel, Air India said the discount is also applicable to family members of the active military personnel of Indian Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, in his first formal communication with the employees after he was given interim charge as the Chairman and Managing Director, Rajiv Bansal said the national carrier will continue to expand its network as well as fleet.

He has taken over at a time when the government has constituted a group of ministers to chart out a strategy for the disinvestment of the airline, which has a debt of over Rs 48,000 crore.
