MUMBAI: I don’t think that the small investors and the small town investors have played a major role in the stock market boom, but they have gained from the boom.

The market is driven predominantly by the institutional investors, particularly Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), and the retail investor has just followed that lead.

When the market is booming, there is obviously a certain amount of attraction. The money from retail investors come sinto the market through a few sources like mutual fund, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and the secondary market.

Whoever has invested in the stock market has experienced a gain. But big money has been made by the high value
investor. Obviously, they will also have a higher impact on the future behaviour of the stock market.
