The Government stated on Thursday that, contrary to what had earlier been reported in a report by news agency Reuters, it has not sent invitations to key business executives for the G20 special dinner. PIB Fact Check is the central government's agency responsible for debunking fake news and misinformation. referred to the report as "misleading" and stated: "No business leaders have been invited to the dinner."
In a previous report, the news agency Reuters stated that the G20 leaders would be attending a dinner on Saturday in the nation's capital with the wealthiest businesspeople in India, including billionaires Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries, Gautam Adani from the Adani Group, N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla, and Sunil Mittal, founder-chairman of Bharti Airtel. It stated that 500 business executives in total had been invited to the dinner.
"Media reports based on an article by Reuters have claimed that prominent business leaders have been invited to G20 India Special Dinner being hosted at Bharat Mandapam on 9th Sep. This claim is misleading. No business leaders have been invited to the dinner," in a social media post shared on Friday," the Press Information Bureau's fact check unit said in a statement.
An Indian official spoke to the news agency and stated "This dinner... will host various world leaders and provides an opportunity to bring together India's business elite during the leaders' summit.”
However, it has been clarified by the government that no such invite has been sent out to business leaders.
