It is not that he is only one such director who has received a text message from GST Network, there are several other directors of different companies who have received such messages if there is a mismatch between initial and revised returns.

According to a Times of India report, the GSTN is sending such text messages to promoters and directors of companies that pay tax over Rs 1 lakh per month. The TOI quoted an official, "Often, the finance people don’t comply with the filing requirement but they immediately file once it is brought to the notice of the management." He also said that chasing directors for a small amount is not worthwhile.

The GSTN sends such text messages if the return is not filed before 20th of every month, then sends a second reminder by 27th if the company fails to file the return. The network also sends text messages in case the input tax credit (ITC) does not match with GSTR 2A return form and GSTR 3B form.

The GSTN has plans to put a dashboard where all details will be available just at the click of a mouse. The officials could see gaps in the system where they would be able to notice whether there is a sudden jump in ITC claims and other gaps.
