Kerala flood: Twitter brutally trolls Paytm boss Vijay Shekhar Sharma for Rs 10,000 donation

Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has done it again! Sharma is back in news but for doing not-so-right thing for a very right cause — Kerala floods.

With many coming together to help the state ravaged by the worst flood in the century, Sharma also decided to do his bit for God’s Own Country. Well, according to Twitter, the problem was that it was seriously just a ‘bit’. Sharma contributed Rs 10,000 for the Kerala relief fund via Paytm and shared the screenshot on Twitter.

In no time, the screenshot, which has been deleted now, was doing rounds on social media. Many started ridiculing Sharma for being such a miser.

But amid this outburst, there were many who supported Sharma. According to those backing Sharma, Rs 10k was the highest amount one could transfer via mobile wallet and Paytm is matching all contributions rupee to rupee.

This is not the first time that Sharma has been embroiled in a controversy over his donations. Last year, Sharma was trolled in December on social media for sharing a screenshot of his contribution to the Indian Armed forces on occasion of the Armed Forces Week. Sharma’s contribution, which was shared on his Twitter profile, showed a contribution of Rs 501.

One must also remember that due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and focus on a cashless economy, Paytm has thrived.

In March last year, Anil Ambani’s Reliance Capital sold part of the stake it holds in Paytm to Alibaba Group, one of the investors in Paytm, for Rs 275 crore.

Before this, at an annual Paytm party, Sharma completely went all-out to gloat about his company's mercurial growth and said that they have done what others couldn't do in 10 years.

He also mocked his critics and finally ended the rant with a swear word. While it wasn't clear if he was high on more than just success, it certainly made for a riveting watch!

The new Indian is brash and arrogant about reaching the top and isn't exactly politically correct about it. Like they say, if you have it, flaunt it and Vijay Shekhar Sharma clearly believes in that mantra.
