PUNE: As part of its expansion plans in India, Pune-based Krohne Marshall Pvt Ltd (KMPL) is building up on its strengths besides making considerable investments towards enhancing its infrastructure in the country. Scaling up its product offerings at par with the international level, the company recently launched its new facility that boasts of the largest flow meter calibration unit in India till date — it can calibrate flow metre up to 2,000 mm diameter.

Krohne Marshall is a 50:50 joint venture between Forbes Marshall, a Rs 250 core company, which is into energy conservation and process automation products, and Krohne Messtechnik of Germany, one of the leading players in flow and level applications, with worldwide manufacturing, research and calibration facilities.

Speaking to DNA Money, Michael Dubbick, managing director of Krohne Messtechnik, Germany, said, “The new facility is an attempt to integrate all manufacturing, testing and calibration activities into a single facility to attain manufacturing optimisation and efficiency. The cost of this new facility is Rs 4.5 crore,” he said

Farhad Forbes, director of Forbes Marshall, said, “The new facility, which is the largest in India in terms of flow capacity and size of the meter that can be calibrated on it, is the sixth facility of Krohne globally. It has two such facilities in China, one each in Chengde and Shanghai.”

Located adjacent to the Forbes Marshall facility at MIDC in Pune, the new three-storey state-of-the-art facility is spread over 18, 000 square feet area. The unit will house a range of machinery like coil winding machine, PTFE lining equipment, material handling equipment, OHT cranes and battery operated truck, foam packing equipment, shot blasting machines for superior surface finish and a modern paint booth with drying oven.

With a turnover of over Rs 35 crore, Krohne Marshall is experiencing an year-on-year (YOY) growth of between 25% and 30%. Though official figures on the market of flow metres in India are not available, Krohne Marshall director Kiran Vohra estimates it to be growing rapidly.

“Of the total water supply in India only one-third of it is metered. In fact, in Chennai, less than 2% of the water supply is metered. This clearly outlines that there is a huge untapped potential for this line of product in the country,” said Vohra.
