Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is one of the most renowned Indian-origin CEOs globally. While he has long been in the public eye, few are aware of his wife, Anupama Nadella (nee Priyadarshini). Despite being married to one of the most famous business figures globally, Anupama maintains a low profile.
Satya and Anupama Nadella married in 1992, the same year he joined Microsoft. Anupama is the daughter of an IAS officer, who was reportedly his junior at Manipal pursuing a B.Arch in the Faculty of Architecture.
When they got married, Satya Nadella was a permanent resident of the US. However, Anupama’s visa application was denied, allowing the couple only brief periods together on tourist visas. To facilitate Anupama's travel to the US, Satya gave up his green card and obtained an H-1B visa to navigate the immigration challenges.
Anupama, also known as Anu, was born in New Delhi to IAS officer KR Venugopal. She completed her education in Hyderabad and graduated in architecture from Manipal University. Despite her professional qualifications, she chose to be a homemaker, dedicating herself to raising their children.
The couple has three children, but they faced a tragic setback with the death of their 26-year-old son Zain in 2022. Zain was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, leading Anupama to become closely involved with Seattle Children's Hospital, contributing to efforts to improve children's health.
Anupama has also made significant charitable contributions, including a Rs 2 crore donation to support the livelihood of farmers and women in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district and another Rs 2 crore to the PM relief fund in India during the COVID-19 pandemic. In FY23, Satya Nadella's annual compensation was reportedly $48 million (Rs 401 crore) and his net worth is estimated at Rs 6200 crore.
