Meet IIM alumnus who heads Rs 82,683 crore company of billionaire Anil Agarwal

Sunil Duggal is the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vedanta Limited. He has been leading the company as interim CEO since April 2020. The company is owned by billionaire Anil Agarwal, who is the non-executive chairman of Vedanta Limited. The multinational mining company has a market capitalisation of Rs 82,683 crore on NSE as of September 29. 

Duggal has also been the CEO and whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a subsidiary of Vedanta, since 2015. He joined HZL in August 2010 as Executive Director, where he was deputy chief executive officer from April 2014, before becoming chief executive officer and full-time director of HZL. He holds an electrical engineering degree from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. He is an alumnus of IMD, Lausanne (Switzerland) and IIM, Kolkata. He did a management development program at IIM, Kolkata.

Duggal has over 32 years of experience in leading high-performance teams and more than 19 years in leadership positions. He also serves as the vice chairman of the International Zinc Association, President of the Indian Lead Zinc Development Association, chairman of FIMI Non-Ferrous Metals Committee and co-chair of the FICCI Non-Ferrous Metals Committee 2017. He is known for his ability to calmly navigate through tough and challenging times, nurture and grow a business.

Meanwhile, Vedanta on September 29 announced the creation of independent verticals through the demerger of underlying companies, mainly its metals, power, aluminium, and oil and gas businesses to unlock potential value. The company plans six separate listed entities.
