Over the decades, Microsoft has played an integral role in shaping the digital landscape, revolutionising the way people work, communicate, and access information. Microsoft, founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975, as a small software startup has now transformed into one of the world's leading technology giants.
However, Microsoft's booming success over the years is also because of Satya Nadella, who took over as CEO in 2014. He has been instrumental in steering Microsoft towards cloud computing and AI initiatives. This strategic redirection has significantly fueled the growth in the company's market value during his tenure.
Nadella, an Indian-origin man who was born in Hyderabad has been a tech geek since his childhood. He pursued his engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka. Moving forward in his life, he decided to shift to the United States. Here, he made the decision to further his education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he gained a Master's degree in Computer Science. He also completed an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
After acquiring technical prowess and business acumen, Nadella started his journey with Microsoft in 1992.
While working with one of the world’s most valuable companies, he played a significant role in formulating Microsoft's strategy for cloud computing which was a cornerstone in the company's ladder of success.
Nadella recognised cloud computing's ample potential. As the Executive Vice President of Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise division, he steered Microsoft's expansion into cloud services, including Azure. His vision fundamentally shaped the trajectory of the company.
Acknowledging his visionary ideas and his remarkable contribution to the company, Nadella was later promoted to the position of CEO, the third person to hold the office in the company.
He brought a fresh perspective to the company culture, reorienting it towards expansion, strengthening the bonds of teamwork, and giving top priority to inventive thinking. At present, Microsoft boasts a whopping market capitalisation of $3.27 trillion (Rs 273 lakh crore approximately). Nadella’s net worth is estimated to be around Rs 7500 crore.
A massive Microsoft outage has affected millions of computers worldwide, which is adversely affecting flight operations, banks, and stock exchanges. It is also disrupting payment systems and even emergency services.
The outage is possibly due to the failure of Crowdstrike Falcon, a cybersecurity platform that provides security solutions for Microsoft Windows.
