If you are familiar with the Indian IT sector, you have undoubtedly heard of Narayana Murthy. But do you know how he founded his business and rose to fame? Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy is a business magnate. One of the seven co-founders of Infosys, he formerly held the positions of chairman, chief executive officer (CEO), president, and chief mentor before quitting and assuming the title of chairman emeritus.

NRN Murthy was born on August 20, 1946, in Mysore, Karnataka. Despite being raised in a middle-class home and having to overcome various difficulties, he showed exceptional academic ability when he was young.

After earning his electrical engineering bachelor's degree from the University of Mysore, Narayana Murthy continued on to the famed Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, for his master's degree. He began working as a Research Associate at IIM Ahmedabad after completing his schooling, and in 1981, he co-founded Infosys with six other software experts, using a Rs 10,000 initial cash contribution from his wife Sudha Murty.

He married Sudha Murthy, a philanthropist who is chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. They dated for four years and got married on February 10, 1978. As Narayana Murthy was making little money as a research assistant, Sudha's father first opposed Narayana's request to marry her. At the end of 1977, when Narayana began working as a general manager for Patni Computers, Sudha's father approved Narayana's request to marry Sudha Murthy. She had also given a loan of Rs 10,000 to Narayana Murthy to start Infosys in 1981.

According to Forbes, Narayan Murthy now has a net worth of $4.4B. Murthy has been listed among the 12 greatest entrepreneurs of our time by Fortune magazine. He has been described as the "father of the Indian IT sector" by Time magazine and CNBC for his contribution to outsourcing in India.
