There are several successful businessmen who initially did engineering in their graduation but later decided to choose the business sector. One such person is Amit Syngle, who now leads India's leading and Asia's second-largest paint company, Asian Paints.
He is the CEO and MD of the company and has been in the top position of the company since April 2020. He holds a BE Mechanical degree from Panjab Engineering College. He has done an MBA from CBM Panjab University.
He joined Asia Paints as a management graduate, initially spent eight years in Sales and headed the northern and central parts of the country. The company has a market capitalisation of Rs 3,13,000 crore as of August 25, 2023. The share price of Asian Paints was Rs 3,255.85 on Friday.
Syngle has been working with Asian Paints for the last 31 years. He has worked in the company in various capacities across Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Business Development, Research and Technology. Under his leadership, the company has introduced home decor categories like furniture, lighting, fabrics and furnishing.
Asian Paints was started in a garage in Gaiwadi by four Gujarati friends in 1942. Since then, it has come a long way with a consolidated turnover of Rs. 34,489 crores, PTI reported. Asian Paints operates in 15 countries and has 27 paint manufacturing facilities in India, servicing consumers in over 60 countries. The company manufactures a wide range of paints for Decorative and Industrial use for interior and exterior walls.

In 2001, Syngle donned the mantle of General Manager - Marketing and gave the brand Asian Paints a modern, contemporary and Indian emotional identity. He soon headed the Sales and Marketing for the Decorative Business as Vice President. He became the President in 2012 and was responsible for not only the sales and marketing at Asian Paints but also headed the Research and Technology function across the organization.
