In today’s world, materialism matters a lot, while maintaining simplicity has become nothing less than an art. And when we talk about simplicity then one name which instantly comes to our minds is Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty. It is to be noted that Sudha Murty is the wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and she has been a source of inspiration for millions of people across the world. Born on August 19, 1950, Sudha Murty is an educator, author and philanthropist too. In 2006, Sudha Murty was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India and in 2023, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India.
Sudha Murty’s net worth is estimated to be around Rs 700 crore and she reportedly earns Rs 300 crore per year but unlike other rich people, Sudha Murty prefers to live a very simple life and you would be surprised to know that she has not bought even a single new saree in the last 24 years.
“I was in Kashi to take the holy dip, and when you go to Kashi you have to give up something that you enjoy the most. I gave up shopping, particularly sarees, from thereon. I now only buy the essential items,” Sudha Murty had once said in an interview.
According to Sudha Murty, her husband Narayana Murthy also share the same values and he is also a man of simple taste. Sudha and Narayana Murthy, however, spend a significant amount of money on books. The couple has a collection of over 20,000 books.
