Most states have recorded substantial improvement in VAT collections: Shaktikanta Das

Das said that the economy will exceed its tax targets.

Stating that most states have recorded substantial improvement in their Value Added Tax (VAT) collections in November, Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das gave out some positive news in his interaction with the media on Friday. 

Being optimistic about the economy's tax target, Das said, "So far as the taxes are concerned, we will exceed the tax targets." Commenting on sectorial growth, Das stated that agriculture is expected to grow at 4.1% while the service sector is growing as well. 

Saying that the economic survey and budget 2017 will spell out what steps the government will take, he said that India is one of the best performing economies amongst other nations. 

Das has also said that when the whole world is slowing down, India can’t really be an exception. However, India is still one of the best performing amongst other nations. "When whole world is slowing down,naturally India can't b an exception; still India is one of the best performing amongst other nations."
