In light of increasing casualties to land mines in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is equipping itself with deep search mine and metal detector (DSMD) machines along with blasting machine and explosive detection kits to stop falling prey.

To that end, the CRPF is procuring around 1,150 DSMDs and three blasting machine and explosive detection kits. The force stated that the mine and metal detector should be the light weight and made of non-corrosive material. “Total weight of the equipment, including all accessories and ruggedised carrying case should not be more than 12 kg,”said a senior CRPF officer.

Further, the officers stated that detection kits should be easily carried  and  be operative in all weather conditions. “It  should be capable of detecting all types of explosives, before and after explosion,” the officer stated.

Meanwhile, the forces are also enhancing facilities in their camps in Naxal-affected areas  through Security Related Expenditure (SRE) funds for building facilities.

WHAT THE FORCE WANTS

  • Blasting machine should be hand held; not weigh more than 750 gms, including battery; should give minimum 400 firings  
  • Total weight of the mine and metal detector, including accessories and ruggedised carrying case should not be more than 12 kg
