India was the first market to get the new Baleno hatch. It was first revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The Suzuki Baleno will also be only manufactured in India, and will be a global export hub for the new car. For starters, the company will export the India-made car to Japan. This will be the first time that an India-made car is exported to Japan. Later on, the new Baleno will be exported to various other international markets.

The new Baleno gets four variants for the petrol version and four for the diesel. The base diesel variant is priced at Rs 6.16 lakh.

Prices go up to Rs 6.76 lakh for the top petrol variant and Rs 8.11 lakh for the diesel version.

Maruti has done well with pricing the new Baleno. Its direct competition -- the Honda Jazz, Volksagen Polo, Hyundai i20 -- are priced in the range of Rs 5.34 lakh and Rs 8.63 lakh. Which means the base Baleno is nearly half a lakh cheaper than the competition.

The Baleno gets a draws power from Suzuki's 1.2-litre K12 engine, capable of producing 83.1bhp and 11.7kgm of torque. The diesel line-up gets the 1.3-litre DdiS diesel engine from Fiat which can make 73.9bhp and 19.3kgm of torque. Both engines are mated to a five-speed gearbox. The petrol line-up, however, also gets a CVT automatic variant, priced at Rs 6.76 lakh.

For safety, Maruti has kept the features standard across all the variants. All variants, petrol and diesel, of the Baleno hatchback gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belt pre-tensioners, and Total Effective Control Technology (TECT).

The Baleno cabin gets Apple's CarPlay, which makes Maruti Suzuki the first OEM to get the system.
