THE Maharashtra FDA has allegedly found pregnancy termination kits and pills available on the platforms available for sale without prescription.

On Thursday, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Authority (FDA) stated that notices were issued to Amazon and Flipkart for over “sale” of pregnancy termination pills and kits on their e-commerce platforms.

THE Maharashtra FDA has allegedly found pregnancy termination kits and pills available on the platforms available for sale without prescription.

As per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, online distribution of these medications without prescription is prohibited, said a statement from the regulator.

The FDA acted reportedly after being tipped off. It then placed orders on Amazon for "medical termination of pregnancy" kits which were accepted by some Odisha and Uttar Pradesh-based vendors.

The drug regulator stated that it had found a similar case with Walmart owned Flipkart. It said that 34 e-commerce portals were “checked” to find out if they sold medications without requiring prescriptions. The Maharashtra FDA did not disclose any details about the notices that were issued to Amazon and Flipkart.
