NEW DELHI: Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) today resumed operations at its Hazira gas plant in Gujarat, which tripped last week due to flash floods.
"Hazira Plant has begun operations with revival of first phase of the plant... with gas supplies at 6 million standard cubic meters per day at 1830 hrs today," a company press release said.
The plant had stopped gas supplies of 40 million standard cubic meters because of heavy floods. Resumption of gas supplies could be done two days ahead of schedule on account of round-the-clock restoration services by ONGC management with committed efforts at the highest level, it said.
Unprecedented floods at Hazira (Surat) had caused complete shut down of Hazira Plant from the midnight of August 7-8. The flood waters from the river Tapti had inundated the plant area with water level at some places as high as 18 feet.
Flood waters had severely damaged almost all the units in the plant, the release said, adding that ONGC began restoration operations after water receded on August 12.
Hazira plant supplies gas to more than 18 downstream industries through HVJ pipeline of GAIL. The closure of plant not only caused per day revenue loss of about Rs 21 crore to ONGC, but also created severe hardships to the downstream consumers.
The restoration work for other units would continue and it is expected that normal supplies of 40 million standard cubic meters would be fully restored in a phased manner by the third week of September, the release added.
