Global beverages major Pepsi is expanding its product portfolio in India in the lemon drinks category and has plans to introduce a product under 7up brand ahead of the summer season.
According to industry sources, the new product would be less carbonated and is targeted at the mass market for on-the-move consumers.
The drink would be in the "nimbupani kind of clear drinks category", they said.
This less carbonated drink is likely to hit the market within this week, the sources added.
When contacted, a PepsiCo spokesperson said, "We already have a diverse portfolio of beverages and food products that caters to different categories and nourishes consumers. As and when we plan to launch new products/variants in the Indian market, we will keep you informed."
The new drink would be a part of the company's 500-million-dollar three-year investment plan in the country announced last year by PepsiCo's global chief Indra Nooyi.
The current drinking product portfolio of Pepsi include Mirinda, Mountain Dew, 7up, Tropicana and Slice.
