Railway Budget 2016: Mumbai's Western Railway gets Rs 143.6 crores

The Pink Book allotments for Western Railway's Mumbai division which extends from Churchgate to Surat is a considerable Rs 143.6 crores.

Of this about Rs 26.3 crores is for the construction of road over-bridges while Rs 23 crores is for passenger amenities. A token amount of Rs 1 lakh has been given to lay the foundation of constructing a water-recycling plant at Bandra. The total cost of building this recycling plant will be Rs 5.68 crores.

The passenger amenities, costing Rs 23 crores, include rebuilding parts of Borivali and Andheri stations and extending the platforms of Elphinstone stations. The list also includes installing escalators, foot-overbridges, as well as raising the platforms between Virar and Surat. Stations like Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Virar, Khar Road, Borivali, Bhayander and Nallasopara will get new foot-overbridges.

A sum of Rs 2 crores has also been allotted for the improvement of ventilation in 105 suburban coaches as well as to buy spares for some of the Siemens rakes in WR's fleet.
